The Story Behind the Painting

To many traditional Native People, sunrise is the most important time of day. Some believed that Sun Chief wouldn't rise for his daily journey across the sky unless someone who knew the proper songs would "sing up the sun." To me, sunrise light on Castle Rock, near Cody, Wyoming, is worthy of any song of praise.

The original 24" x 48" oil painting sold at the 2016 Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale live auction in September 2016.
