John carries a sketchbook wherever he goes and captures his observations of Nature and people. Having spent 20 years as a professional illustrator, he now uses his drawing skills to create fine art paintings and drawings. John was the winner of the first-ever Robert Kuhn Award for Best Submission in the category of Drawings or Sketches at the National Museum of Wildlife Art's Western Visions Show. He has also illustrated over a dozen books, as well as numerous magazine and newspaper articles, and calendars. John continues to create an Outdoors for Kids cartoon each week for the Billings Gazette and a weekly editorial cartoon for the Mountain Journal, aka MoJo.

Noted painter and illustrator, John Potter, and award winning author, Lynn Estes Friess, team up to present engaging read-aloud stories, sure to delight young readers. The adventures of Carl, an inquisitive chipmunk, and his friends are set inside and around the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. These books, suitable for ages 3 through 10, encourage children to read, think, explore their world, and solve problems.

Proceeds from the sale of these books go to the National Museum of Wildlife Art to assist in accomplishing its mission by sponsoring educational programs for children and adults, exhibits, and to provide operating support. These stone coasters are practical and beautiful! They feature John Potter images printed on the original CoasterStone. John loves to paint outdoors! He is a member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters and has regularly participated in the Jackson Hole Plein Air Fest and Yellowstone Plein Air Invitational.
