Autumn Update from Rosebud Studios, and John Potter

Greetings everyone!

We here at Rosebud Studios hope that you all had a great summer. We sure did!

After our annual Sun Dance ceremony, I headed straight to Jackson, Wyoming, and spent the month of July as artist-in-residence at the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

What an absolutely wonderful experience.

I met many new friends, and many of them became new collectors as well, acquiring new work right off the easel as I painted there in the lobby of the Museum.

A documentary film for PBS was being shot on the premises as part of the Museum's 20th Anniversary Celebration, and I was privileged to have been interviewed by the film makers. I'm so honored to have been included in the making of this documentary, celebrating the history of this great Museum.

The Museum staff was so gracious and genuine, too  all of them going out of their way to make me feel welcome and at home, and always providing for my every need  whether it be a cooler light source, or a plate of warm chocolate chip cookies.

In August I took part in the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters National Exhibit in Winter Park, Colorado, where I was fortunate enough to win an Award of Merit, and to have a sold-out show! I also took part in a forum discussion about plein air painting hosted by Southwest Art Magazine, which was a lot of fun. A huge thank you to Southwest Art, to Tom and Gary at the Elk Horn Gallery, as well as to Rendezvous, and to all my friends and collectors there in Winter Park who helped to make this show such a great success.

Then it was back to Jackson Hole in September for the annual Fall Arts Festival. I took part in the Quick Draw , always a very strange and wonderful event!, as well as the Western Visions Miniature Show back at the NMWA. Once again, the Museum went out of its way to make this one of the best art events in the country.

I also took part in a group show at Galleries West Fine Art, the gallery that represents me in Jackson and, as usual, those folks went all out to host another great show for us! Major thanks to Bill and Deb, Scotty, Jen and Amelia!

Now I'm back in Vermont, thankful to be home again with my wife and family. Thankful also for the life I've been given, and so very thankful to all of my collectors, old and new, who help to make this life of mine so good.

Thank you, also, to all of my artist-friends, with whom I share the occasional lows and incredible highs of this crazy business, and from whom I continue to learn so much. There's never enough time to spend with all of you.

But now there's much work to be done: wood to be cut for another long Vermont winter, dogs to play with, and teenage daughters to embarrass.

And, oh yes, paintings to get done! Commissions to finish!

Thank you  all of you  for sharing your lives, homes and hearts with me and mine. It is an honor.

With respect,

John Potter  Fine Artist
